We were enjoying the fabulous spring weather with friends outside, but with 4 children wanting to play with the one bilibo toy we needed something to keep the kids entertained whilst they waited for their turn.

Thanks to Disney’s FamilyFun Magazine we had a fabulous time making this homemade hourglass (albeit with raw sugar instead of sand and i’m sure a number of other standard pantry items would suffice)

Not only did the children have fun making it, fair “turns” of the bilibo followed and they loved watching the “sand” pass through the hourglass.

MATERIALS

• 2 clean, dry plastic bottles
• Half cup Coloured sand (we used raw sugar )
• Two-hole button
• Clear tape
• Clock

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Pour colored sand into one bottle. On top, place a two-hole button that’s large enough to cover the bottle opening. Add the second bottle as shown, and wrap the juncture securely with several layers of clear tape.
2. Use a clock to figure out how much time your hourglass measures (ours is about 10 minutes). To adjust the time, peel off the tape, add or remove sand, then replace the tape and time it again.
